[ # ] Kilkenny beat Limerick to win the All Ireland
September 2nd, 2007

Kilkenny beat Limerick by 2-19 to 1-15 to win the 2007 All-Ireland final. A 2-3 blast, with goals from Eddie Brennan and Henry Shefflin, in the first 10 minutes effectively decided the game. Limerick were playing catch up for the rest of the game and were never able to get close enough to make a real game of it. Ollie Moran hit the Limerick goal in the second half but Kilkenny replied almost immediately with a string of points and there was never any real danger to the Cats retaining their crown and joining Cork on top of the honour roll with 30 titles.

Cannot understand how Eddie Brennan is awarded man of the match by any serious hurling analysts. Surely he should have been sent off for striking the Limerick full back in the face with the handle of his hurley.
If the matter is not dealt with, there is a very clear message to hurling managers for next year. That is, select players who will use the hurley in the face “tackle” on the opposing players. Why not? If the best hurling county in the country do it to good effect, why not everybody else.
