[ # ] GAA special congress rejects under 19 grade
January 26th, 2008

The special congress of the GAA has rejected the call for an under 19 grade to replace the minor and under 21 grades. The motion which was seeking to address the current hot topic of player burnout lost out by 115 votes to 58 which is a pretty comprehensive 2 to 1 defeat.

A motion to create an inter county close season in November and December passed with a large majority. There’ll be plenty of county managers complaining about that one but it’s a good move. The inter county season was getting out of control.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would be grateful if you could let me know what proposals were passed at the Special Congress in Jan 2008.

Many thanks,

It’s hard to find specifics on the fate of all the motions.

But thanks to Sligo’s Gaa Website and Setanta Sports we have the following

There were 24 motions on the agenda - http://www.sligogaa.ie/newsitem.aspx?=769 -

Motion 16-20 failed : (Under 19 stuff)
Motion 21-24 passed : (designed to improve the club fixture situation and lessen the impact of county games)
