[ # ] GAA approve grants scheme
March 18th, 2008

Good news today for the players as the GAA’s Central Council officially approved the awarding of grants to players. The GPA are naturally delighted with the decision which will see players getting between €1400 and €2500 depending on performance.

Hopefully this will shut up some of the anti grants groups, like that OfOneBelief crowd, although no doubt they’ll find some other avenue to lodge an objection or complaint to stall the process. The GAA continues to lead the way as the most progressive sporting organization in Ireland.

UPDATE (March 20th): They’re bloody well launching another objection. This group is crazy. Their anti any form of progress in the GAA, which is obvious from a quote by their leader, a Mark Conway, who said ““I disagreed with the opening of Croke Park…”, no doubt they disagreed with getting rid of the ban on foreign sports and the ban on the Northern police back in the days.
