annouced new sponsors for the All Ireland Hurling Championship today. Guinness were the sole sponsors but now it’s Guinness, RTE and Etihad Airways. It’ll now be known as the “GAA Hurling All Ireland Championship”. The new format takes effect from this season. The football is being sponsored by Toyota, Ulster Bank and Vodafone.
Etihad Airways is the national airline of the United Arab Emirates. It’s certainly novel to see someone like that involved!

Great to see the sponsorship carved up. I’m a Guinness drinker and love hurling but the name ‘Guinness Hurling Championship’ was just wrong. Funny to see Etihad airlines involved -credit to them. In 1992-1993 Aeroflot sponsored Clare hurlers, as they had tons of planes landing at Shannon

didnt know that about aeroflot - its a good one. must try come up with a list of the most unusual sponsors. id say these two would be at the top.

Thats a fact Larry -it was on the jersey in cyrillic script! Actually if any readers out there know where I would get hold of one in decent condition, I’d be delighted. Am not a Clareman by the way! There was a bit of controversy in Clare over it at the time as I recall, and POD came in just before the championship of 93 and the jersey was changed.
