[ # ] Injury Worries for Waterford
May 9th, 2008

Waterford’s injuries are piling up ahead of their opening Munster clash with Clare on June 1st. Dan Shanahan is the latest onto the treatment table to go along with Eoin Kelly and Eoin Murphy. Paul Flynn is also out of the reckoning. Seems like they’ll be missing a lot of forward power for that game so there’ll be a lot of pressure on the likes of John Mullane and Seamus Prendergast to fill the gaps. Might leave the door open for Clare to spring a surprise. The word from the Clare camp all year is that they’re re-building but they’re always capable of pulling out a big game when they’re fired up enough.

Current odds on the game from Paddy Power have Waterford at 1-2 and Clare at 15-8 with the draw at 10-1

Mightn’t do Waterford any harm to get beaten and go into the qualifiers. Winning Munster has been no use to them in recent years and even though this year it has the prize of a straight semi final spot they’d still have to win 3 tough hard games to get that far. The losers of this Clare Waterford game will play the losers of Galway Antrim which in all fairness is going to be Antrim. So that’s a nice easy qualifier to get back on track with.

Speaking of Eoin Murphy, you can listen to him on a podcast over at squareballz.com. It’s epsiode 10. That site seems to be a new effort at some GAA related podcasts and the quality is getting better with each episode.
According to Eoin the Waterford squad is off for a bit of warm weather training next week. That should help cure some of the injuries!
