[ # ] Achilles Tendon Tear
May 27th, 2008

I’ve been laid low with an achilles tendon tear suffered in a hurling league game last week so have missed out on site updates for the last few days. An annoying injury, puts an end to my hurling for the year. Doctors in the hospital don’t tell you much but there’s plenty of good info on the web such as these couple of blogs which are full of info on what to do post surgery, coping with a non weight bearing leg etc - http://www.achillestendonblog.com/ and http://achillesblog.com/

Not that much has happened in the last week besides expected wins for Offaly and Dublin in Leinster and Derry and London in Ulster. Laois were pitiful against Offaly, hurling is in a bad way there right now. The Dubs looked good in the second half, hopefully they might carry that through against Wexford and make it into the Leinster final. That might temporarily shut up all those bemoaning the state of hurling.

Next up is the first major action of the summer with Clare and Waterford and a debut for TV3’s championship coverage. Looks like most of the Waterford injuries are clearing up just in time so they have to be heavy favourites for that.

Hi, sorry to hear about your Achilles rupture.
I ruptured my Achilles in Feb. There is a good group of people on http://achillesblog.com who are all going through Achilles rupture recovery. I hope you find the site useful.

thanks dennis - good site - its good to be able to get info about what to do post op and the best road to recovery - the docs in the hospital were useless with giving information. looks like the first 2 weeks is all about rest and keeping the leg elevated
